50% success rate, worst warranty I've ever seen
|
The first motor I purchased had bad valves on 3 cylinders. Low or no compression. Clearly a manufacturing defect. I had paid $1600 for the engine from AutoZone. The warranty rep asked the shop to have me authorize another $250 in diagnostics to determine if the engine was really bad. Yup. Still a bad engine. I had a shop install the motor, which cost quite a bit at $110/hour, so I had about $1600 in labor costs including the extra $250 that ATK had the shop do in diagnostics. What did they cover with the warranty? $800. 1/2 the labor costs, and none of the cost of the extra diagnostics. Cheap bastards.
They replaced the defective engine with a 2nd one that is running fine, but the double labor costs that they covered a very small portion of still chaps me.
